How to configure a BlackBerry smartphone as a modem tethering on a Mac
A BlackBerry ® smartphones with tethering modem capabilities can be used as an external modem to connect a Macintosh computer to the Internet using a USB cable or Bluetooth ® connection. Script installation is included in the BlackBerry ® Desktop Software that provides the ability to select Research In Motion ® as a vendor to configure the BlackBerry smartphone to use tethering modem.
Dialing and connections are supported by the wireless service provider and the additional cost or additional charges may apply because this will be through a network operator. Contact your wireless service provider for more information about modem tethering support and any costs incurred.
To use the BlackBerry smartphone as a USB modem tethering, follow these steps:

1. Install the BlackBerry Desktop Software on a Mac computer.
2. Using a USB cable, connect your BlackBerry to a Mac computer.
3. On the menu bar of your Mac, click the Apple icon, and then go to System Preferences.
4. Click Network. A dialog box stating New interface detected appears.
5. Click OK.
6. Click Apply / apply.
7. Click Continue to complete the configuration of the modem.
8. Verify the following information:

  • Vendor: Research In Motion
  • Model: BlackBerry IP Modem (GSM) or BlackBerry IP Modem (CDMA) - depending on the type of network SIM card or BlackBerry smartphone related.
  • APN: internet.com - by default, "internet.com" Access Point Name (APN) is displayed.

9. Click OK to save the configuration changes.
10. Click Apply / apply.
11. Make sure the BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac is closed.
12. Click on Connect.
 
Note:
If your Mac does not automatically detect the new interface, the device must be added manually. To add a device manually follow these steps:
  1. Click the plus sign at the bottom left of the list of networks
  2. Click below for the interface and select BlackBerry devices.
  3. Click create / create
  4. This will make the device as a network and you can follow steps 7-12.
  5. If the password-enabled BlackBerry smartphone, maid password application (part of the BlackBerry Desktop Software) launched before the connection request password BlackBerry smartphone. Type the BlackBerry smartphone password and click OK to start the Internet Protocol (IP) modem connection. If the password is not typed BlackBerry smartphones and confirmed, IP modem connection is not working.

If connectivity is not achieved by the previous configuration, contact your wireless service provider to verify the necessary information.
Note: Depending on your BlackBerry smartphone connection and wireless service provider or network type provided by the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card, script auto-populates the necessary configuration information when configuring the modem.
